Rules and Regulations
1. Eligibility
-
University of Malaya Civil Engineering Competition 2022: Green Olympic Village is opened to all national and international polytechnics and undergraduate students of higher learning institutions.
-
A team of participants must consist of a minimum of four (4) and a maximum of five (5) students in polytechnics and universities.
-
A student must not be a member of more than one team.
-
Each team may be accompanied with one (1) supervising advisor.
-
All members of a given team must be from the same institution.
-
First come first serve basis, first 20 teams are selected.
2. Registration Rules
-
Participants can register through the Google Form given.
-
Registration date: 3rd January to 7th February 2022
-
Registration fees: RM 100 (malaysian) , RM125(USD30) (non-malaysian)
-
Registration fee is not refundable.
3. Competition Day
-
Participants must be ready 30 minutes in advance and enter the Zoom meeting 15 minutes before the competition starts.
-
Attires of the participants must be neat and tidy.
-
Participants must mute their microphone throughout the meeting unless it is their turn for Q&A session.
-
Participants must make sure the microphone and camera are working before entering the meeting.
-
Any delay or disruption due to the internet connection must be informed earlier to the Person in Charge.
-
Every participant must be visible during the presentation.
4. Procedure
-
Competition is judged by two parts which are the Proposal and Recorded video presentation.
-
Proposal is a technical report to describe their designed idea.
-
Participants are required to create a Recorded Video Presentation about their designed idea and this video will be played during competition day to evaluate participants' soft skills (7 May 2022).
-
Participants are required to prepare a Video Introduction to own a chance to win Best Popularity Award.
A.Proposal
-
The proposal and the output file from the analysis structure software must be submitted 2 weeks before the competition. (before 24 April 2022)
-
The proposal must be submitted through Google Form.
-
Any graphical item is allowed.
-
Number of pages should not exceed 20 pages (excluding cover page, executive summary, table of content, references, appendices and group photo and output files). The checklist of the proposal will be provided.

Any late submission of a proposal will not be accepted.

B.Recorded Video Presentation
-
The presentation should include the proposed overall idea of Green Olympic Village including site plan, sustainable building design for accommodation, and roof-truss design for Green Olympics 2024.
-
Creativity and innovation of the proposed design of the Green Olympic Village are highly encouraged.
-
The video presentation should be done using: SCREENCAST-O-MATIC / OBS Studio/ other screen recording software
-
Visual aid is compulsory in the presentation.
-The aim of the visual aid is to provide a clear picture of the idea presented.
-Visual aid can only be in the form of PowerPoint.
-
The length of presentation should not exceed 10 minutes long.
-
A Q&A session by the panel of judges will be held for each team after the live Recorded Video Presentation session.
-
The maximum duration of Q&A session is 5 minutes.
C.Video Introduction
-
Participants are required to upload a video to UMCvEC 2022 via Google Form before 1 April 2022.
-
The video content:
A. Group name
B. Name of university/polytechnic
C. Self-introduction
D. Must mention “University of Malaya Civil Engineering Competition 2022”
E. Duration: Minimum – 1 minute, Maximum – 2 minutes
F. All participants must be visible in their video.
-
Video will be uploaded via UMCvEC Facebook page.
-
Every participant MUST add UMCvEC’s Facebook profile frame to their Facebook profile picture one month before competition day to be qualified for BEST POPULARITY AWARD.
-
Number of “LIKE” will only be admitted once every member of the team has changed their Facebook profile frame.
-
Number of “LIKE” will be counted 1 day before competition day.
-
Best Popularity Award will be awarded to the group which has the highest “LIKE” for their video.
-
Starting from 7th February 2022, the Video Introduction submission is opened for the participants via Google Form.
-
All the videos will be posted on 4 April 2022.

6. Judgement Criteria
-
Proposal - 70%
A. Green Olympic Village Concept (10%)
B. Sustainable building design of accommodation (20%)
C. Roof-Truss System (40%)

Video Submission (30%)
A.The presentation should be recorded in video for submission purposes.
-Video recording should be done using screencast-o-matic or OBS Studio or other screen recording software
B. The presentation should also include the design of the accommodation and the open-space area. It is encouraged to show the design of the site plan sustainable building design of accommodation and the roof truss design of the open space area for gathering and chilling purposes.
C. Creativity and innovation of the presentation are highly encouraged.
D. Visual aid is compulsory during the presentation.
-The aim of the visual aid is to provide a clear picture of the idea presented.
-Visual aid can be in the form of PowerPoint.
E. The length of the presentation shall not exceed 10 minutes long.
F. A Q&A session by the panel of judges will be held for each team after the oral presentation.
G. The maximum duration of the Q&A session is 5 minutes.

A. Overall Champion
B. First Runner-up
C. Second Runner-up
D. Most Creative Award
E. Best popularity Award
Each team will be granted only ONE award in UMCvEC 2022 (Best Popularity is excluded)
8. Declaration
-
The organizing committee reserves the right to amend the rules and regulations of University of Malaya Civil Engineering Competition: Green Olympic Village without prior notice.
-
Further details or changes about the competition will be notified to the participants.
-
Any violation of rules and regulations may be subjected to marks deduction.
-
The decisions made by judges are final.
